sandy and the swan

Well, here I am, another dawn at the pond,
Just scrambling for food for my babies
quiet time goes by like a wave of a wand.
Humans again, I must pretend like I have rabies.

Don’t they have anything better to do
Than walk and talk and jog and tread?
Oh joy! Here comes a loud, chatty two
Why don’t they just home, go back to bed.

Oh! my ears, will they ever stop the chatter?
Let’s see what I can do to scare them away?
One is talking sickly sweet to me, but the later
Is scared, this human called Sandy, I can keep her at bay.

Great, they just spooked away a tasty frog
“He’s big!” She says as I watch her squirm
I fluff my feathers and squawk by the log
before they invade my bounty of worms.

I walk towards them hissing my loudest hiss,
Ha! Sandy steps back. I think she is shaking,
The other one called Deb looks at me with bliss.
Sandy warns her to stay away as she is quaking,

This Deb walks around me telling her “it’s cool”
Sandy warns, "But it looks like it wants to attack!”
“Show no fear," says this Deb. I think she’s a silly fool
But Sandy listens to her friend and I stand back.

Why? Well to tell the truth. I can only taunt so much
When confronted by two blabbermouths on my path.
And so, back to my cygnets and my cob, and we’ll munch.
This swan will pick another day to show her wrath.
