The Stoneham Writers Group was founded in the summer of 1990 by Sheila Foley and Julianne T. Kautz. . Many of the core members joined within a few years of its inception. There are seven regular members and a few irregulars who are not listed on this site. We also get the occasional stray who sometimes never return. As you'll see on this site we are not only writers, but artists, musicians, and performing artists. Sometimes artwork or photos accompany selected poems or stories to highlight our various writing styles. Here on this FAQ page we have answered general questions about the group, such as where and when we meet, in case fellow writers (strays) decide to wander in one night to check us out. If your question is not answered here, just e-mail web designer and member Sandy Bernstein for more info at: sandy@stonehamwritersgroup.com

FAQs
:

WHERE AND WHEN DO WE MEET?
We meet on the Third Thursday of every month from 7- 9 pm at the Stoneham Public Library, located at 431 Main St. in Stoneham, Ma. For more info call, 781-438-1324.

DO WE WELCOME NEW MEMBERS?
YES: However, we wish to keep the group small so everyone has the chance to read. There is no limit, but we find if we keep the group between 8 and 10 it works out fine, as not everyone shows up in any given month.

WHAT DO WE DO?
We critique. Each member reads aloud, receiving feedback from others. The critiques are generally good, constructive criticism. You get the good with the bad. We tell you exactly how it is, like it or not. We are honest and fair, however, we tend to go easier on new members. Sometimes a member will distribute copies for the group to read, which is okay, but not common practice. We also support one another, sharing thoughts on rejection and acceptance, and often give advice on where to market work. Resources, such as market listings, guidelines, or advice on publications are helpful tools, and we welcome the input.

DO WE PREFER A PARTICULAR GENRE?
NO: We listen to any type of writing. However, the group writes a lot of fiction and poetry. We read nonfiction as well. Some members are involved in more lengthy pieces, like novel writing. Whatever you've got, we'll give it a listen.

ARE WE PUBLISHED?
Yes: Most of us are published. For a sampling of work, check out our 2000 Anthology, Heels and Souls. You can also view individual pages via the Members Page.
